The Community may be the last bastrds to cover this Jaydiohead phenomenon, but we thought we’d throw our two cents in nonetheless. For those who don’t know, about a week go a son of a bitch DJ named Minty Fresh combined jams from Jigga’s Black Album and American Gangster with tracks from Radiohead’s In Rainbows, OK Computer, and Kid A. Slap these scenes together, throw in a little hocus pocus, and you have a decent, unique combo of what The Community ultimately deems a dynamic and successful scene.
While it’s our opinion that you can pretty much throw Hova’s rhymes over just about any music, most of this merging with Radiohead exudes a commanding, kind of illustrious sound. Granted, some tracks are more noteworthy than others, and “Dreaming Up” and “Change Order” sound a touch pedestrian – perhaps even forced.
In the end, however, The Community applauds this (semi?) original fusion of headliners — a tasty bowl of stew if you know what I mean! Experimentation is commendable, and while it appears DJ Minty Fresh never meant for this to be a huge deal, probing the unexplored very often leads to high rewards. Bravo to Minty and his decent creation!
