FAIRHAVEN — The Rose Alley Isotopes are back atop the Sandlot Softball League, winning both games this week to improve to 10-2 on the season. This is the first time the Topes have been in first place since 2007.
“Who can complain about being in first place?” coach Jon Darling asked after Tuesday’s game. “The guys are playing really well right now and we’re putting down beers at an astonishing rate. Everything’s coming up roses — so far.”
The ‘Topes defeated previous top dog KMP (10-3), 18-14, Monday at Livesey Park. Yim homered to deep left en route to a 6-RBI afternoon. Pitcher Matt Biltcliffe helped his own cause with a pair of RBI triples while Eric McAndrew (4-for-6 with a 2-RBI triple) and Kenny Jacobsen (3-for-4, RBI triple) chipped in offensively.
The ‘Topes came back firing on Tuesday night with a 14-8 revenge victory over the Outlaws, who defeated the Topes in extra innings last week. Yim hit a pair of homers and Kurt Homer launched a 2-run home run to deep right as part of a 7-run sixth inning. Pat Long (3-for-4), McAndrew (2-for-3, walk), and Biltcliffe (3 RBIs) joined in the offensive charge.
